Process- Jacket Design
Designing a book jacket is one of the most exciting and challenging projects in the illustration universe. Not only do you have to design type and image on an object that is viewed and handled in physical space (front/back/flaps/spine) but above all that, you have to tell a story. This small narrative must allude to the largest themes in the book without exposing any details that would take away from the experience of a reader.
This is a case study of my process for creating the cover for my children's book, John Brown: His Fight for Freedom.
